The frame of an image has evolved through time. From golden baroque frames to no frame at all. Today, the canvas or the paper is very often pinned directly to the wall. This reminds us the original useful function of a frame: To hang it easily on a wall without damaging the painting. In the slideshow you can see examples of another type of frame. The frames are more “furniture-like” and the wood is not hidden by gold-leaves.
- Treat the material like it is treated somewhere else (the wood of the frame as if it was a furniture)
- Exaggerate (baroque frames)
- Make it the main thing (the frame becomes more valuable than the painting itself)
- Keep it raw (make the frame yourself with four wooden bars as in contemporary art)
- Leave it out… and find another solution for fixing a canvas on the wall. For example, nail it directly onto the wall and accept that the new solution is may be less efficient and that it slightly damages the painting: The nails make tiny holes in the canvas. But you know, meaning comes before aesthetics in contemporary art.
How things are done in art can be an useful principle for creating new products or services in many business fields. Check out the CSID showroom Medamothi, too. It is an open space for all types of visualizations. From business facts and charts to analytical art. Because there is more to visualization than just PowerPoint.
